We are Al and Carol.
Introductions are important. You always want to make a good first impression, but you also want to be clear and concise about who you are and what you are doing. So….having stated that, here is a brief statement on the direction we hope to be taking in our current and future lifestyle.
We went from city people to country types who learned to homestead and loved the way of life it encourages. Over time, life’s journeys have brought us back to the city, but we’ve seen opportunities to re-apply a lot of what was learned during our homesteading years. Our hope is the things we can share will help others to grow in their own way of self reliance.
We love the homesteading life, and we’re talking more than just gardening and having animals. It’s the homesteading way of living: growing organic food, taking care of the land, foraging for wild food, and most of all rediscovering and holding on to an older, but better and wiser way of doing things. Does this mean we think all modern conveniences are bad? Well, no. Do we think all modern conveniences are good for us? Well, no, especially when it comes to how we feed ourselves. So we want to fast forward to the past and re-discover, re-learn, and re-teach the better, older ways of how some things were done.
(Let us apologize for the outdated photos- in the 70″s and 80’s – the Polaroid One-step was the standard- These are of our First Homestead Garden and our Jersey Milk Cow Blossom. )
Convenience is easy, especially with the busy lifestyles of today. But maybe with a little knowledge, and a little help, we can encourage people to make a few (or a lot) of changes in their habits that could make huge differences in their health: physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
We hope you can enjoy or at least learn from, get a chuckle from, or find some info to apply in your life from the things you’ll read and see on this site.
